Who said Track wasn’t a team sport? Certainly no one who was at Waller Stadium around 6:15 Thursday night! It was fantastic to see all the athletes running back and forth across the field cheering on their teammates in the boys 4×400 relay, wasn’t it? And right after that spectacular finish by senior Josh Block, another senior – Chris Fong – casually resumed the triple jump and broke the school record that had stood since 1983! The triple jump and 4×400 sealed the win over Redondo for Boys Varsity (despite what the Daily Breeze said). Boys and Girls Frosh Soph were also victorious. Our girls Varsity put forth a spirited effort with some impressive performances, but ultimately were not able to complete the sweep over Redondo. Get ’em next year!
Congratulations to all our seniors (photo above), who were honored before the meet as they competed on their home turf for the last time. But the season’s not over yet! Read on….
Tartar Relays Tomorrow many members of our Frosh/Soph squad will get an opportunity to compete at Torrance High’s Tartar Relays at Zamperini Stadium in Torrance Saturday April 26 beginning at 10:30. Here’s the link to all things Tartar Relays
Wednesday, Team Photo Day: Our talented and hard-working Lead Photographer Brett Hodges will station himself on a personnel lift to snap our team photo on Wednesday at 1 pm (6th period starts early that day). Athletes should wear their uniform tops (and black warmup bottoms if they have them).
Thursday, Last Bay League Dual Meet at West High School: It’s back to West High (home of last weekend’s SB Championships Tourney) for our final Bay League Dual Meet of the season. Start time is the usual 2:45 pm and the athletes will be going by bus. Remember, if they will return home with you, the coaches need to have a signed Alternate Transportation Form on file. (It would also help to know this ahead of time so that we can send a bus away after dropoff — saves money! Have them let Coach Russell know on Wednesday.
Our Coaches are Boston Strong! Co-head Coach Renee-Williams Smith and Asst. Distance Coach Tami Shalvarjian took a little trip back east a few days ago…no big deal…Just ran a little race known as the Boston Marathon! We are so proud of these ladies! Coach Tami ran a 3:28 and Coach Renee ran a 3:50. We are in awe! Talk about practicing what you preach!
Get thee to Jamba Juice! Remember back in the fall when we all bought (and sold) those 2 for 1 Jamba Cards and the expiration date seemed so far away? Well, time flies — they expire on April 30!
Thank you Fresh Brothers Pizza! They provided dinner for our coaches last night and we really appreciate it!
