Report from Redondo

It was an emotional pre-meet, as coaches and athletes paused to reflect on Coach Fish’s impact on South Bay track & field and their own lives. We were all overjoyed to see Coach Renee — sore and jet-lagged — but safely back from the Boston Marathon. The wind was howling and temperature was dropping….but the competition was just heating up.

The Boys Varsity had a strong victory over the Seahawks. The Girls Varsity fell short, but still recorded some excellent competition. For me, perhaps the most inspiring moment of the night was watching senior Lauren Hagedorn nearly overtake a nationally-ranked RUHS senior. The aftermath of that race made me love Costa Track & Field even more (if that’s possible!) Our frosh-soph teams both won.

We are all so proud of our Mustangs, their sportsmanship and the family spirit that permeates the program.  The coaches remarked about our great cheering section in the stands — both at Redondo and at the PV Invitational. Let’s keep it alive and thriving this weekend at SB Championships (maybe we will even be able to applaud without mittens)!

The scores:

Boys F/S: MC 99- RU 36

Girls F/S: MC 93-RU 43

Girls Vars: MC 45-RU 91

Boys Vars: MC 103-RU 33

The Daily Breeze had a nice writeup about the meet. Here’s the link:
