Update from Boston
Hopefully you received our earlier communication that Coaches Renee Williams-Smith and Paul Cooney are safe after running in the Boston Marathon this morning. Paul finished the marathon about an hour before the explosion; Renee finished about 15 minutes before. We send them our best as they make their way home. When Coach Moe talked to her this evening, Renee was determined to get home in time for the Redondo meet. Of course she is!
Tomorrow – Big Meet vs. rival Redondo at Redondo
As is the tradition, we will compete under the lights against our cross-town rival Redondo Union High School for our annual dual meet. This year, we’ll be at their Seahawk Stadium. Throwing events get under way at 5 pm. Running and all other field events commence at 6 pm. The coaches notified the athletes about transportation plans at the Team Meeting today. The coaches will transport the throwers; then two buses will leave Costa at 4 pm. Only one bus will remain at the meet to transport those athletes who need a ride back to campus (most indicated they will get a ride home with parents attending the meet). In case you haven’t already put one on file — better late than never, print out and sign an alternate transportation form (available under “Links” tab)
Great Performances at the Inaugural PV Invitational
Our friends at Palos Verdes High School put on a fine first-effort Track & Field Invitational. The Mustangs had a stellar day, garnering Team Honors as well as Athlete of the Meet Honors — senior pole vaulter Sean Griffin! We had a couple of great write-ups from the Daily Breeze and the PrepCal Track website. Links are below.

We’ll have more later in the week as we prepare for our final dual meet of the season at home vs. West the 25th, as well as our hosting duties for Bay League Prelims and Finals. As always, we will need our great volunteer corps to come out and make these events run smoothly. Until then, be safe, be kind and be thankful for every moment. Life is precious.
