Last Dual Meet – Tomorrow 2:45 @ West
If you didn’t get enough of West High School last week at SB Championships, then we’ve got just the thing: Our last Dual Meet of the season, where League Championships are at stake! Undeafeated Boys Varsity and Boys Frosh/Soph are looking to finish #1 in Bay Leauge with a win over West. The Girls Varsity and Frosh/Soph, each with one loss, are gearing up to finish strong and take second place in Bay League. Competition will commence at 2:45, so yet another opportunity for you to do your sunshine dance in hopes that the expected storm comes and goes before then. Buses leave from school, as usual. West Torrance High could just as easliy be named East Redondo High — unlike the other Torrance schools, it’s close.  Map Here

Weekend Report: Speaking of South Bay Championships, we saw victorious Mustangs on the winners’ podium both Friday and Saturday night. Congrats are in order for Boys Varsity — they won the meet! Also, our very own Kyle Hubbard was named Male Athlete of the Meet, and our Varsity Boys Pole Vaulters swept their event! But our girls got their turn on the podium too! Mt Sat Relays: Coach Renee Williams-Smith took a carload of our awesome Varsity Girls out to the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut. They did us proud. Kelli Sugimoto took first in the Girls 3200m with a National Elite Time of 10:54.92 – wow! Jenna Tong also recorded a National Elite Time in the 1600 with a 5:01.27 run. Their relay came in 8th — an honor!

Bay League Next Week
Bay League preliminaries are next Tuesday at 1 pm at Redondo. (So, your athlete will get to miss a little more school than a usual meet day. Buses will leave from school). Those who qualify by winning their heat or getting one of the top times will return on Friday at 5 pm for Bay League Finals. This will be the exclamation point on the season for the Frosh/Soph athletes – there is no further competition for that level. Varsity athletes who qualify will move on to Southern Section Divisional Competition at Moorpark High School on May 12.

Celebration Banquet, May 21, 6-10 pm, MB Marriott
Invitations will be sent home next week (and emailed & posted on the website, of course) for our end of season banquet. This is a family affair, with a slideshow, speeches from the coaches, dinner & dessert, recognition within the squads for every athlete, and the season awards, including MVPs, Most Improved and the highest honor, the Adam Frand Award bestowed to a senior boy and girl. The squad captains even get their turn at the mike, with words & gifts for the coaches. Mark your calendar now and keep an eye out for the invite and RSVP form)

Lost and Found: Lost — Green Soccer Sweatshirt; also Girls Spikes (still missing). Reply if your athlete inadvertently brought home someone else’s stuff (it happens).

Batten down the hatches for that “big storm” (I see blue sky….hmmmm).
