Volunteers Needed: Thanks to all who have already signed up to help. We’ve got a few full shifts, but we’ve got a ways to go before we can rest assured that we’ll have smiling Mustang Parent faces at every turn, so to speak. There is something for everyone — Ticket Taker/cashier (there’s a busy gate and a quiet gate — you choose!); snack stand; jumps; throws; finish line; volunteer check-in/greeter; set up, tear down, gate sentry (to prevent athletes from crossing the track during a race!) and more! We’ll have a name-badge for you at the East Gate (Peck side) if you sign up by Friday — and guess what — that means you’ll get in for free! (All other spectators pay for admission!) Please click on over to the Volunteer Spot and sign up.
Mustang Relays FAQs:
Cost: $7 adults; $5 Senior Citizens; $3 students w/ID and children under 12. Bring cash!
Food: In addition to our usual snack stand offerings, there’ll be a hot food vendor cooking up burritos, tacos, burgers & dogs ranging from $3 – $6. Bring Cash!
Schedule: Click on The Schedule of Events. Your athlete should know by tomorrow (or sooner) what events he or she will be competing in (and this will help you in deciding where and when to help out–but remember, you can always take a quick break to watch them compete if your shift overlaps their event — just let your fellow volunteers know!).
What schools are coming? Last we heard, we’ll be welcoming athletes from Redondo, West Torrance, Palos Verdes, North Torrance, Bishop Montgomery, El Segundo, Chadwick, Torrance, Inglewood, Loyola, Crescenta Valley, Rowland, Servite, Millikan, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Culver City, Quartz Hill, Cerritos, Marlborough, Notre Dame Academy and Firebaugh. And of course, those Mira Costa Mustangs!
Parking: As you know, we have one less parking lot than in years past, so give yourself plenty of time to find a spot in case you have to walk a distance. We are currently trying to procure some local parking lots, so stay tuned for Friday’s email about that!
Weather: Forecast is for a sunny and dry day (woohoo!) but if you’ve got any “Sunshine Dance” experience, we encourage you to get groovin!
What time should we get there? Coaches will inform the athletes of expectations for the day. Set up folks need to plan on arriving 7:30-8:00am. Spectators should arrive at least half an hour before event time — sometimes meets can get ahead of schedule! Volunteers, check in 15 minutes before your shift.
