MCHS @ South: Hot performance on a cold day!
The MCHS T&F preseason continues to gain momentum with another strong Mustang performance Wednesday as we defeated South Torrance in a non-league, winter-bluster meet! Brrr. Several alumni braved the harsh wind and chill to cheer on the Mustangs. It really says a lot about the program when the college kids come back to see their coaches and former teammates!

The Daily Breeze had a brief write-up about the meet:
Prep section3/15, page B6 :
Track and field
Reed Scale cleared an impressive 14 feet, 1 1/4 inches to highlight Mira Costa’s 105-28 nonleague boys victory at South Torrance.
Ashlee Dotson clocked a 59.6 mark in the 400 meters and Allison Bartak cleared 5-0 in the high jump in Mira Costa’s 85-51 nonleague victory at South Torrance”

Nike @ Redondo, Today & Tomorrow:
Many of our athletes will be competing at the Nike Invitational at Redondo Union High School this weekend. Because events are so spread out, there will not be a bus for this meet, so athletes are on their own to get to and from (some squads may be carpooling). Coach Calderon recommends participants arrive two hours in advance of their competition in order to have sufficient time to park and warm up. A reminder, there’s a $5 entry fee for spectators (competing athletes are prepaid) and you may come and go. Many have asked whether this is a rain or shine event – according to the RUHS Track website, it is. It’s our understanding that if weather is severe, there would be a delay, but all indications are that the meet will proceed as planned. Link to all things Nike Invitational

Mustang Relays 3/31 – Help Needed:
Please continue to sign up to Volunteer at Mustang Relays. It’s a big day with jobs for everyone! For instance, do you like to boss people around? You’d be perfect for a Gate Keeper (to stand down at the track fence and keep people from crossing the track during a race!). Are you a quieter type, content to sit and read a book and enjoy (hopefully) sunshine between your athlete’s events? Sounds like West-gate Ticket taker to us! (Most people enter at the east gate, so those folks stay pretty busy!) It’s much quieter on the west side. Want to be at the finish line for a couple hours? We need back-up timers (this meet uses an electronic timing system, but just in case, we like some humans down there!) And we’ve got Snack Stand, Jumps, Throws….plenty of places to plug in! You can find the schedule on our website, so peruse your athlete’s potential competition times, and then click on over Volunteer Spot and let us know how you’ll be helping!

With umbrella, parka, gloves, stadium chair (and sunscreen….a gal can hope)
