MCHS v Santa Monica @ MCHS
Saturday, March 3
Athletes arrive: 10 am
Volunteers arrive: 11 (set up)/11:40 Field Help
Meet Starts at Noon
Great Meet Yesterday!
Despite the late start due to Warren’s delayed arrival, the first meet of the year was a great success — both on the field and behind the scenes! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped time, rake, measure, donate snack items and sell, as well as set up and tear down the Snack Stand! And congrats to our Mustangs, who swept all four scoring divisions — meaning Frosh/Soph Boys and Girls, and Varsity Boys and Girls. Can’t ask for more than that! Soon we’ll get some race results on the webite, so stay tuned! And congrats and thanks to our Coaches, who put in LOTS of long hours in preparation for this and every meet!
Help Needed for Tomorrow:
From one of the coaches: “We were talking among the staff and saying that we’ve never felt so much support from the parents. This is great!” Yay for the parents! Thank you all for stepping up (and probably out of your comfort zone a bit) and helping, whether with organizing, donating, working the field or up at the Snack Stand. And, of course, there’s no rest for the weary….We need more help tomorrow! In addition to some of the usual shifts that need filling, we realized last night that we need a bit more “muscle” on set up and tear down end of the snack stand — especially with transporting non perishables back to the storage shed after the meet. Not that the muscle we had wasn’t great — they were awesome! — but we don’t want to burn these guys out! If you’ve got strong arms and back, and know how to lift with your legs, have we got a job for you! Check out the Volunteer Spot site and see if you can help fill the gaps!
Thankfully, the weather promises to be warmer tomorrow (seriously — nothing says ‘spring sport’ like a Parka and Ugg Boots — sheesh!) – my iPhone weather app says a high of 75! So bring sunscreen and layer up — because Mira Costa has a weather pattern all its own — and ya never know!
We haven’t received the final tally from Rubio’s yet — but there appeared to be a steady stream of Green T&F sweatshirts through the restaurant Wednesday night. Thanks to Meika Fang (mom of Chris & Gregory Fong) for organizing it! The folks at CPK would like to partner with us next, so stay tuned for that dinner fundraiser! Thanks to everyone who made Rubios their leap year dinner!
Merchandise: If you pre-ordered merchandise, everything except duffels is available for pickup at the merch table next to the snack stand. (Duffels have had a delay at the embroiderer, but we hope to have them some time next week).
Uniforms/sweats/tshirts: The coaches have been distributing the apparel through Coach Calderon’s classroom. There have been shortages in some sizes and they are doing everything they can to get each athlete clad in meet attire. There is actually a shortage at NIKE in certain sizes of shorts. Go figure. We urge patience as the coaches try and get the orders filled. We will have some T-shirts available (limited sizes and styles) for sale at the Merch table tomorrow (but not sweats or uniforms), so if you would like your very own Mira Costa Track & Field t-shirt, we can probably help you out! Or at least place an order!
Okay — rest up, plenty of hydration, healthy (not heavy) foods tonight for peak performance tomorrow — oh, yes, and for your athlete too!
See ya at the Track!
